What is happening in Hungary and Europe and Asia..
Budapest has been spending the last year, praying and seeking God as to how to reach our community. This community is a post modern culture that has almost lost hope in a better future and certainly one that sees many good ways but no "right" way. We know the "truth" but must earn the right to share this truth. We have set out to establish incarnation relationships in which we invite people to walk with us. Currently this has led us to teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) which began with our own small
group and has now expanded into the business community of 10-15 students. Also the church is considering re-planting in a facility that is more conducive to an open environment. Pray for the harvest here in Budapest and pray for Pastors Imre & Maria Gusztin as they lead that charge. We have suffered the return to the US of some key workers in the church, Rev. Donnie and Shelly Johnson with WGM. WGM is partnering with the Budapest church to save the lost. Donnie and Shelly were very important to this ministry but after 13 years in Hungary, it was time to go home. Shelly has just found out she has a brain tumor. Hold them high as they continue Gods work in the US.
The Hajdúhadház church continues to grow slowly but steadily. Pastor Gyula and Masha Fiak have a vision to unify their community and to reach out to children in a sports ministry. Masha is gifted in reaching to the children. They have a vision to build a sports
field on the back of the church property to provide a safe / fun environment for children and youth of the community who have no such facility in their community. Gyula has drawn up plans and has estimated the cost of around $15K-$20K to complete the project.
Pray for their childrens program(s), community unity and for this sports complex (work and witness teams needed). Rev. Gyula and Masha Fiak were just ordained at the Hungarian District Assembly held in their church on the 9th of April. Gyula is having blood pressure problems so pray for his health.
The Földes church is also growing steadily under the Pastoral leadership of Gabor & Kati Veres. They have three small children, two girls and one boy. There home is only a one bedroom home, so the parents sleep in the front room while all the children share the same room. The desire is for us to add a second bedroom to the parsonage so that Gabor Jr. can have a separate room from the girls. Pray for the harvest field in Foldes and for the W&W teams to come and help add the second bedroom.
The Debrecen church is doing very well. They have been able to make their facility very attractive thanks to the help of W&W teams like Mt. Vernon. They have been without a pastor, so Pastor Miklós & Ica Tulipán from the Kisvarda church are acting as interims. They have five children from middler up through high school age. Their car is a small four seater in which they cram the seven of them to travel the 60 miles or so between cities. If the district could purchase a newer van for district responsibilities, we could loan the existing van to Miklós for their use will acting as interim pastors. Pray for the harvest in Debrecen, for transportation for the Tulipáns, and for the awakening of the indegenious peoples of Hungary to the call of God.
The Kisvárda church has a very small congregation and the community is very closed to the gospel. Pastor Mi Miklós has a vision for the Hungarian people in the neighboring countries who have been displaced by the occupation of their country. The Kisvárda church will serve as the first training facility in Hungary for the new pastors and key laymen. We are well into the construction phase for a parsonage and training center attached to the church in Kisvárda. Numerous W&W teams have assisted in bringing this facility to reality but we need approximately three more teams to complete the work. Thanks to the last W&W team from Southern California in April, we are ready to finish the electrical, plumbing, heating, and finish work inside this facility. Two teams from the Netherlands and Michigan are scheduled later this year but we still need one team in the fall to complete the work. Pray for the harvest in Kisvárda, the W&W teams that come in God's name, and for Pastor Miklós and Ica as they lead the way. Miklós and Ica also have blood pressure problems, pray for them.
The youth of the district go to NYC in Kyev the first week in August of this year. The country desperately needs for these youth to hear God's call to the ministry. They are the future for this country. Pray for the obedience of those who hear the call. Pray for their finances to go to NYC.
In early July, family camp will occur in Hungary. This is the only vacation / holiday many of the people can afford. Pray for the movement of God and for his blessings upon these people who have been oppressed for so long. Each year the prices increase but the
salaries do not keep up. Each year seems to be a little worse than the year before. If there is a God, they feel that he has forgotten them but we know that is not true. Pray that God will become real at family camp.
Our District Superintendent, Dr. John and Vicki Moore, are the missionaries here and they have many more hats they wear. They have been assigned to lead the effort to re-invent evangelism and church planting across Eurasia in a post modern society. As missionaries, they receive a small salary to sustain them and must raise funds to help their district as well. We need a parsonage in Budapest that would reduce the monthly expenses for the Moore’s. Pray that we will locate a relatively cheap apartment that can be renovated so that the district can gain equity. Pray for W&W teams in 2009. The whole of Europe has seen decay over the last couple of decades. The challenge is to re-ignite the churches across Europe. God in Mark 9:29 says "This kind can come out only by prayer". I think that more things only come by prayer than we realize. More than anything else, Eurasia needs our prayers. The Moore’s need your prayers for wisdom and strength. Hold all the missionaries in Eurasia up to the Lord for they have gone into hard ground and forsaken so much to be obedient to His call. This is a true battlefront. One last note, our missionaries and Pastors face the attacks of Satan to their families and to their health. Pray against Satan’s attacks. Pray for their safe travel. The Moore's grandson just came through surgery for a large tumor in his stomach which resulted from a malfunctioning shunt in his brain which also replaced. Vicki's sister Wanda, has a possibly terminal case of cancer. And John brother Les has also recently suffered a rare disease that could have crippled for life but God has and is healing him. The Moore’s are far from home and long to be with their families. They are being obedient and the attacks are real.
God Bless!
